The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 states that employees are to be adequately trained or supervised on machinery and plant in the workplace. It is also covered in the Code of Practice for Cranes and the Code of Practice for Load-lifting Rigging.
The one day competency-based course covers both theory and practical and is designed to provide operators and handlers the knowledge and skills to operate truck mounted load lifting equipment safely and legally in the workplace.
The theory session covers:
• Health & Safety in the workplace, and how to manage hazards
• Parts of the Truck Mounted Crane and what they do
• Pre-operational checks
• Slinging equipment and techniques
• Safe work practices and site set up
• How to read load charts so as not to overload the Truck Mounted Crane
• Inspection and care of equipment
The practical session covers:
• Vehicle and crane pre-checks
• Carrying out operating environment checks and applying hazard risk management procedures
• Setting up the Truck Mounted Crane
• Carrying out full motions check
• Completing two lifts with different lifting equipment and loads
• Folding the crane away ready for transport
